Hi K.A Fox, welcome!

Your novel The Devil’s Own by Dunwich Edizioni, the first volume of the YA trilogy, has just been released in Italy.

K.A Fox

  • Who is the author behind the novel?

Tell us about yourself. I’m a true military brat, moving with my family wherever the Air Force stationed us as I grew up. I still love to travel and see new places, meet new people and learn new languages. I live in the Midwest of the United States now, with my husband, three boys and a supersized Yorkshire Terrier named Moose. My children love that he inspired the Hell Hound in The Devil’s Own but are still protesting the fact that he’s the only one in the family who gets to be famous.

  • In addition to The Devil’s Own, have you written any other works? Is there one you are most fond of? If so, why?

Book 2 in the Murphy’s Law Series, Judas Kiss, was released in 2020. I also released a novella, Ragged, as part of the Once Upon Another World box set in October 2020, which blends elements from Pinocchio, Raggedy Ann and the Velveteen Rabbit into a modern fantasy story. I’ve also had several short stories featured in anthologies and am excited to further develop those into future series. But my favorites so far are The Devil’s Own and Judas Kiss. Delaney Murphy is a character I feel strongly connected to and sharing her story with the world has been a huge accomplishment. I also have a certain affection for her father – yes, he’s the Devil, but he’s also proof that love can change us for the better. He’s so genuine and truly would change everything for his daughter.

  • At what age did you start writing? And what were your first topics and / or subjects, that you enjoyed writing about?

I started writing at around 8 years old, but my parents constantly remind me I was “telling stories” long before then. My first subjects centered on smart, resilient female protagonists who survived difficult situations and built the lives they wanted. I still admire those types of characters and they commonly appear in the stories I write.

  • Do you have any special rituals you do before you start writing? Do you do anything special that makes you comfortable concentrating and writing?

(for example, if you make yourself a hot chocolate before you start writing or listen to music, etc.) I have a gorgeous teal green chair in my bedroom that I only use for writing. It’s as if my brain recognizes that as soon as I sit in that chair, it’s time to create, and I’ve noticed a huge increase in my productivity since I added that to my routine. Music is a huge part of my writing process, and when I’m writing Delaney’s books, I listen to music by Lindsey Stirling. The first song I turn on is always Roundtable Rival and no matter what, hearing the opening notes instantly tunes me into Delaney and her voice. I’m constantly drinking iced tea when I write and my husband knows exactly when to start brewing more so I don’t run out. I also reward myself for hitting specific goals with chocolate. This is especially effective when there’s a difficult scene I seem to be avoiding. I’ll make a deal with myself: “If you write this scene, you get to have this one piece of gourmet chocolate you have not been allowed to have.” It’s a strategy that definitely works. ?

  • Has The Devil’s Own always been called that or has it changed over the course of writing?

The title has always stayed the same. Each book in this series has an original Angus Murphy and The Law song associated with it, the lyrics of which are included somewhere in the story. The title of the song is also the title of the book. Once I have the song written, I know the title, and then the story really flows from there.

  • Kristi, can you tell us something about the sequel Judas Kiss?

In Judas Kiss, Delaney learns more about herself and what she’s willing to do for the ones who matter to her. Instead of running from who she is, we see her begin to accept herself and her magic more. But she also experiences betrayal on many levels, leading to tragic consequences. It’s a fast-moving story that constantly surprised me as I wrote it.

  • Would you like to turn your trilogy into a TV series? Or have you never thought about it?

I’d love to see these books on screen. I think the story and characters would translate very well as a TV series. When I’m writing, I’ll often visualize scenes in my head, like a mini movie with dialogue and action. It would be a dream come true to see this trilogy become a TV or movie series one day.

  • Are there authors who have influenced you or who have made you passionate about the world of writing?

Kim Harrison’s is an amazing urban fantasy author whose books sucked me in as soon as I saw the very first cover from across the store years ago. I fell in love with the characters and the world she created. Her characters feel absolutely real. They make mistakes and strive to do better along the way. Lilith Saintcrow is another urban fantasy author who is constantly creating, giving readers characters that we can easily relate to and worlds that are so expertly crafted you feel transported into them. Gail Carriger, who I’ve been lucky enough to meet (she’s wonderful and if you ever have the chance to attend any event where she’s a guest, get there if you can), writes fun, intelligent, steampunk inspired stories that make you wish you could be there with them characters, wearing ridiculous hats, being instructed in fashion by a fabulous rove vampire or even traveling around the world on a dirigible.

Thanks for joining us, K.A Fox!

Ciao K.A Fox, benvenuta!

Ma i miei preferiti finora sono The Devil’s Own e Judas Kiss.

I suoi personaggi sembrano assolutamente reali.
